Heart and Memory... I always though memory was most closely connected in the old cerebellum to the sense of smell. Think Proust. Then I began experiencing the effects of Anosmia, or nasal hallucinations, and began to doubt my nostrils. Strong emotional experiences do etch memories on our psyches, so come up and see our etchings sometime! At The Arts Upstairs, each may etch his or her own heartfelt memories. The Art Sfari awaits...

Leslie Bender travels with Dorothy on the way to Emerald City. Here, in "Poppies", she pauses while the snow falls gently between the petals.

Solo room artist Bronson Eden is for the birds, as you can see in "The Conference of the Birds".

Girls are birds, too.

I usually drop the "the" whenever possible to save time.

Thus, "Conference of Birds".

Patricia Charnay never ceases to amaze me. So many different mediums and all done so well.

This womblike sculpture is cast aluminum and called "Growing".

Lynn Fliegel, a celebrated solo room artist, somehow finds time to paint prolifically between globe trotting bouts of craft fairs and festivals.

This painting (sold, sorry!) is titled "Spring Birches".

Aha! a new fabric artist!

Maddie Goldman is likely to encounter John or Ringo while "Under the Sea".

No glass!

You can touch the soft, sensual surface.

But wash your fingers first!

I spin these old vinyl 12 inch 33&1/3rds all the time.  Wendy Grossman spins them into furniture.

"Record Table".

Chris Kristoffertson is so hot that you can save on your oil bill by buying this disco-inferno of an art furnishing.

Do it and reduce your carbon footprint.

Joe Jackson takes all kinds of society's cast-offs and makes really cool mash ups.

Remember bananna seats?

V bars on your bike?

"Saxoponist with Dime.On.Ring" might have been a nod to the choppers in Easy Rider, but i like to think he is referencing the caterpillar on the magic mushroom.

Notice the dime he uses to grommet the garden spade to the brass whatever it is.

Which dwarf are you? Or is that too un-PC? Lenny Kislin is above all that. He is pretty tall.

Remember the poster in Paul Krassner's Realist, what Goofy was doing to Minnie?

"Me Next, Snow White"

I'll take sloppy seconds.

Where does he get this stuff?

Erica Minglis is a solo room artist this month.

She is so modest, I had to talk her into it. (although you can't tell by looking at her.)

Is this collage "Dodging the Issue"? Not by me.

Her sense of humor and her sense of the sublime stand my aesthetic lightning rod on end and I sense a thunderstorm coming.

Andy Warhol said you get 15 minutes of fame if you are lucky.

Perhaps just being healthy is enough.

Ellen Muret made this print, "All That Heals", and it works for me.

My Mesothelioma has gone down 25%.

Hear me!  I like it!

F*ck Jackson Pollock.  F*ck Sam Francis.  F*ck Helen Frankenthaler.

Even F*ck the domesticated elephant that does the same thing with her trunk, and my three year old.

Stephanie Skrabak is better than any of them, as "Abstract Sunset Mountains" demonstrates. And you can buy it at The Arts Upstairs.

This collage is "Untitled" You can't imagine how much that bothers me. I really want to know what the artist had in mind.

However.   As Professor irwin Corey would say.

I still like it a lot anyway and it goes well with Erica Minglis' artworks.

Made in USA by Richard Westsider.

See you at the next opening at Arts Upstairs.   Back to Art Safari
